چکیده
Plant growth-promoting bacteria –PGPB– are microorganisms that can grow in, on, or around plant tissues and stimulate plant growth by numerous mechanisms (Vessey 2003). Within this group, nitrogen-fixing bacteria play a remarkable role in plant nutritition. They can take N2 from atmosphere and make it available for plant uptake (Halbleib and Ludden 2000). Azotobacter, a nitrogen-fixing bacteria, is able to fix nitrogen aerobically and have the particularity of forming into cysts (Becking 2006, Garrity et al. 2005). This bacterial genus, has showed to be able to promote plant growth, and therefore it is usually included in the PGPB group. For example, Kisilkaya (2008) showed that inoculation of wheat with Evaluation of three methods for preservation of Azotobacter chroococcum and Azotobacter vinelandii

Assessment of plant growth promoting activities and abiotic stress tolerance of Azotobacter chroococcum strains for a potential use in sustainable agriculture
This study aimed to select and characterize bacterial strains with multiple plant growth promotion properties able to tolerate drought and salinity stress in order to improve plant growth performance under abiotic stresses. Plant growth promoting activities were evaluated in 106 bacterial strains isolated by soil, compost, lignocellulosic biomasses and food matrices. Two strains A. chroococcum ...

The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of inoculation (Azotobacter chroococcum and actinomycetes) and nitrogen mineral fertilizers (doses of 60 kg N ha-1 and 120 kg N ha-1) on the yield of wheat and on the number and activity of certain microorganisms in rhizospheric soil. The investigation was carried out in humogley soil with three wheat varieties. The variants of the experime...

A mixture of five saturated 5-n-alkylresorcinol homologues was isolated from vegetative cells of the nitrogen-fixing soil bacterium Azotobacter chroococcum Az12. Their structures were established by spectrometry (1H NMR, EI-MS, FAB-MS, FAB-MS/MS) and chromatography (GC, TLC) means.

A transconjugant of Azotobacter chroococcum Mac 27 tagged with lac Z(A. chroococcum Mac27 L) was found to possess high levels of β-galactosidase activity constitutively. Further, the lac Z marker was found to be stably integrated into the chromosome of the A. chroococcum Mac 27 and did not have any adverse effect on growth, nitrogen fixation and excretion of ammonia. A quick method to determine...
